TOBY'S ESTATE INDONESIA - PIK AVENUE, JAKARTA [FIRST EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW]

For those who have heard of the rumor, rest assure as it's CONFIRMED! The highly anticipated Toby's Estate is finally opening its first Indonesia outlet in PIK Avenue, and of course yours truly got the first access and exclusive preview of the outlet, overall it's still pretty raw and construction is still going and because I don't want to spoil all the excitement I am going to show you some pictures that I took when they invited me to come and see the training process and will definitely make a full blog post in the future.
Toby's Estate Indonesia is located at the outdoor area of PIK Avenue's North Lobby and for a coffee shop standard, it's pretty spacious with mainly modern-industrial feel infused to the interior design, the kind people behind Toby's Estate Indonesia previously showed me the 3D render of the store and so far it has been looking pretty much the same as how I expected it to turn out.
Marco Bulk Coffee Machine or should I say the coffee jet machine!
As for the espresso machine, they occupy Spirit espresso machine, that's a $20.000 beast for goodness sake!
So excited for you guys to try their coffee, again can't tell you much but if you love super bodied coffee then you'll love this one!
Can't hardly wait to come to the opening later this weekend and enjoy the beautiful harmony of never-ending coffee shop hustle bustle, interaction between the people and smelling the lingering coffee scent surrounding the coffee shop.

If you guys are keen on coming to Toby's Estate, they will start operating on December 10th 2016 starting 4 PM, the grand opening reception will be earlier that day and for invited guests only. Maybe we can bump to one another that day so I'll see you guys (maybe)!

UPDATE - DECEMBER 10TH 2016
So today I attended the grand opening of Toby's Estate Indonesia and it was crazy busy and packed with so many media, blogger and influencer friends as well as some friends from the coffee biz and Australia. The rundown was basically typical: press conference, Q&A session, food tasting and the best thing: UNLIMITED FLOW OF COFFEE!
Do note that this won't be exactly a full review of Toby's Estate because I was busy hosting the guests and helping them with the crowd, but what I can really tell you is that even after the super packed day (like crazy packed), the coffee and food were amazing, and I was a bit skeptical about the consistency but it was more than what I expected. Truly proud of the team!

Aside from what you're looking, they also have espresso based coffee (piccolo, cappuccino, latte) and non-coffee drinks. Price range starts from IDR 30k-85k for coffee.
Expect to find all-day Australian-Western brunch meals here with price ranging from IDR 70k-200k, even though I didn't snap a lot of pictures as I was super busy, but I happened to sample all the food and they were so great, and by great I mean definitely above my standard, all that I really wish was for the charm not to fade! So what to order? Get their Pappardelle pasta with generous amount of meat, Buttermilk Chicken (photo below), Kale salad (omg the kale was so crunchy) and their French Toast as sweet closure!

OETARA COFFEE JAKARTA

The North is certainly the home for up and growing coffee shops in Jakarta and quality wise, more and more new ones start to debut very-very well.

While most new coffee shops are lately more to the minimalist, unfinished and industrial design, Oetara is a newcomer with rich sweet, dreamy and homey vibe to it with major white and a bit of pastel (mainly tosca) chrome surrounding the interior deco. First of all, at the very moment you can't really trust the help of the freaking Google Maps and Waze as both were totally giving me the wrong direction to the coffee shops! On the map it's said to be located across the SMAK 6 Penabur where it's actually located align and beside the Yu-i restaurant, so if you're confused you better type in the word "Yu-i" instead of "Oetara Coffee".
From the pictures that I saw from their Instagram account, I was deeply pre-in love with their bright presence and appearance, but when I was actually there this afternoon and maybe because it was gloomy outside, it was unlike what I expected. The lighting was mainly warm and slightly dimmed, but it doesn't mean that it's bad (well not at all), but I was hoping to see what I saw on the Instagram. I need a next visit!
Ok enough yakking, still on my post-holiday withdrawal syndrome and I didn't feel like chatting too much *so sad*.
For those who come in groups or have this huge "passion" for the social, there's a huge communal table in the center of the shop.
A mini corner souvenir shop. They sell books, magazines and coffee related products.
Expect to find common range of coffee creations such as white, black, and manual brews. Price range for coffee starts at IDR 30k-45k

Coffee Taster Sampler - Hot Cappuccino - IDR 35k
Nylon coffee beans and cold hands of the barista to curate such a warm-loving, milky and buttery coffee that was perfect for the day. Their cappuccino reminded me of the Australian style coffee where it's milky, medium-body, soft finish and algother creamy. It was indeed a good one.

Their chocolate brownie has been a top selling menu here and it was quite gooey, but I would love if they actually offer to heat the brownie as I believe it would taste much better right after.
Iced White - IDR 35k
As for the iced white, they're using Single Origin Toraja beans. I would defo root for the hot cap much better as I was hooked on that interesting buttery note it teased. The iced white was light without much body note, but with such delicate finish.
Affogato - complimentary
This was a nice complimentary from the barista who was very friendly and attentive on my visit! Anyway I heard from my friend that the barista used to be the head barista at Chye Seng Huat which by the way is my favorite coffee shop in Singapore! This was surely a different kind of affogato as they added shredded coconut topping on the large scoop of vanilla ice cream and mini pretzel to make it pretty!
Right after that first scoop, I was aware that theirs was defo one of the best affogato creations you can find in town. The espresso and vanilla ice cream combo really gave that nice caramelly flavor and that shredded coconut sprinkle gave not only texture, but a hint of flavor as well! Altogether very nice and something that I'd be more than happy to recommend.
A serious one in the North, I have good hopes for them! Long live the love for coffee and best of luck!

AWESOME AUTUMN DRINKS BY MAXX COFFEE INDONESIA

A few weeks ago, I was invited by Maxx Coffee to be one of the speakers for their Awesome Autumn drinks launch and talked a bit about my passion in blogging. I have always loved sharing positive things for people and hoping they would get inspired by what I do, and believe it or not back when I was in highschool, I have always wanted to inspire people, I thought it was cool in the kindest way, but back then I had no clue what I was going to become, so long story short (and I've shared this a million times) I started this blog and sort of like drowned in my own passion and here I am running this blog for more than 4 years already (I know right I still can't even believe it). I believe in the power of passion and your self-power, your future is in your hands.

Awesome Autumn drinks by Maxx Coffee
The event took place at their Nobu outlet in Semanggi and it was packed with online and print media friends, and even though I was a guest, but I wanted to thank the media friends for coming and covering the event, it means something for me and Maxx Coffee.

So before I talk further about the event, if you're a first timer to Maxx Coffee, let me brighten you briefly. Maxx Coffee is not a foreign franchise brand, in fact it's a local coffee brand built by the giant Lippo group (which is a famous property developer in Indonesia) with outlets that are rapidly growing and spreading all over Indonesia. One thing that I appreciate a lot about Maxx Coffee is how they try to promote local beans and use mainly Arabica coffee beans for their coffee. And how's their coffee for me? Well I've tried their cappuccino and I found that it had a medium-strong body flavor with the right amount of milk and nice finish. I hope I was not just lucky and they are indeed consistently good.
If you wonder why they're launching Autumn drinks in Indonesia where we technically don't have any Autumn here, well I guess it doesn't matter to me. They're trying to bring the autumn vibe to this hot town through their drinks with the hopes that they would cool you up, the three drinks that became the highlight for the Awesome Autumn season are the Roasted Almond, Houjicha and Black Sesame beverages that are available in hot, iced and blended (frappe).
Houjicha Frappe, made from Houjicha or roasted tea.
Roasted almond latte
Guests were more than welcome to grab the complimentary drinks and food available on the pretty display, there were the new latte beverages and fraps available and I sure had my personal favorite (review of the drinks below).

Me paying serious attention to the questions given by the media fellas, some were so damn intimidating LOL.
Together we posed for pictures with the Awesome Autumn drinks on our hands
There was a fun itching latte art competition held for the media friends, and because they're pretty generous, all contestants did not go home empty-handed and left with the cute prizes!
So "itching" is basically a latte art style where you kinda make strokes using the help of toothpicks of anything with sharp point (but do keep them safe ok!). Here the contestants made their creative latte arts using chocolate sauce as the base and toothpicks to form the latte art, it's very easy to do and you can totally do this at home!
Ok if you noticed I haven't talked much about the drinks, that's because I wanted to briefly review their latest outlet in Cideng which is very-very near where I live (yay-ness say what?!). The spot was previously the home to 711 and across KFC Cideng, it's easily noticeable from the fancy-catchy design and huge logo placed on the building.

The interior of the outlet was simply designed and very coffee shop proper (well my kind of coffee shop proper) with mainly wood decorating the interior and the lingering smell of coffee living up the ambiance.
Went here with my brother, paid for all the drinks & opinion fully remains my own <3
Left to right: Roasted Almond, Houjicha and Black Sesame iced latte
Houjicha and Roasted Almond ice latte
These Awesome Autumn drinks are unique and some I have never seen anywhere else in town, and talk about unique, I feel like lately Indonesians (mainly the youngsters) are more open with trying new and unique trends, even though sometimes they are a bit out of the box, and hopefully these drinks can be well received by the public! Not to mention, they came in such simple and pretty colors that are tempting to the eye.
...and if you ask me whether I like the hot, iced or frappe the most? ICED LATTE ALL THE WAY! I feel like the latte version of the drinks really showed the best flavor character of each drinks and gave such good impression to my palate, especially the stronger ones like Roasted Almond and Houjicha, not that the hot or frappe drinks are bad, it's just the I prefer the iced latte version.
Roasted Almond Latte
The almond flavor was very rich and blended nicely with the creamy milk which acted as a balancer as well. It's nutty, rich but light in the same time and thankfully I didn't find the almond flavor artificial even though it's a very thin line when it comes to almond. This is a nice drink to slurp on the hot day.
Houjicha Latte (non-coffee)
The Houjicha aka Japanese roasted tea flavor was really strong but at certain note, the burnt flavor of the roasted tea was very delicate, it's rich without overpowering one's palate I believe. The houjicha was my favorite among the three.
Black Sesame Latte (non-coffee)
This had the lightest flavor character, as well as the creamiest without tasting overly milky, all thanks to the generous black sesame mix given to the drink and that really balanced out the milk. Black Sesame is incredibly healthy especially for pregnant women (or new moms) as it help the body to produce more milk.
Must admit that I found their newest beverage line-up is fresh, playful and tasty in the same time. Next time what? Corn latte maybe? That should be delicious. Best of luck for Maxx Coffee and I am looking forward for more of your innovative and fun creations in the future!
